WINCHESTER 1886 DELUXE 45-90 CAL. LEVER ACTION RIFLE WITH FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 45-90. S# 4845. Bbl. 26" with German silver blade front sight & semi buckhorn rear. Beautiful early Model 1886 mfg. in the second year of production (1887). This example comes with a bevy of special order features as listed in the factory letter such as 1/2 octagon bbl., checkered pistol grip stock, shotgun butt, knife blade sight, 14" pull & 3" drop. Case hardened action, lever & hammer, steel shotgun buttplate & forend cap. Full length mag tube. Fancy walnut forend & pistol grip stock has style "H" checkering. Left side of lower tang marked "191 XXX S". Matching number on stock channel as well as inside buttplate. Butt of stock under buttplate marked "FT". Belly of stock has German silver name shield in toeline. Markings read "H? Hitchcock ?? / 87 /St Louis Mo.". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Winchester factory letter stating the following: Rifle / 45/90 / 1/2 octagon barrel / Plain trigger / Checkered stock / Pistol grip / Shotgun butt / Oil finish / Knife blade front sight / 14 inch pull / 3 inch drop / Received in warehouse on May 20, 1887 / Shipped from warehouse May 21, 1887. CONDITION: bbl. & mag tube retain 70% original blue, beginning to fade with sharp edge wear and scattered areas of light freckling. Receiver, lever & hammer retain 60% original case colors, turning silver but still vivid in protected areas. Unsanded wood has added layer of varnish over occasional light handling marks. Bright bore retains crisp rifling which is quite uncommon for a rifle of this age. Mechanically excellent. (01-28739/BH). ANTIQUE. $9,500-14,500.
